Made in Finland, the firepit can withstand extreme weather conditions from generation to generation. Exposure to weather conditions gives the COR-TEN® steel Firepit a beautiful rusty colour in the course of time.
Muurikka Firepits are made of thick Finnish steel and manufactured in Finland. These robust, multigenerational Firepits have been made to endure the extreme weather conditions of the North and high temperatures. The firepit is supported by three sturdy and detachable legs. The Firepit is ready for use and easy to move around thanks to the side handles. Open fire creates a pleasant atmosphere and warmth in your garden or cottage. Gather around the round firepit with your family and friends and enjoy the charming atmosphere and open fire cooking together. Heat up the Firepit with charcoal or wood.
Muurikka Firepit is made of 3 mm thick COR-TEN® steel. The Firepit has the maximum resistance to heat. In addition to pure steel, COR-TEN® steel contains small amounts of copper, chrome, nickel and phosphorus. The durability of COR-TEN® steel is based on the dense and durable oxide surface and resistance to corrosion. COR-TEN® steel is in fact often used in structures that are exposed to weathering actions.
Exposure to weather conditions gives the COR-TEN® steel Firepit a beautiful rusty colour in the course of time. A new Muurikka Firepit is grey but it turns slowly into rusty brown thanks to time and weather conditions. Each Firepit has a unique natural surface texture. Made in Finland.
Like normal soft steel, COR-TEN® steel starts to oxidise when it is exposed to both damp and dry conditions. Over time, the oxidised surface develops a dense patina layer and its colour changes from the original reddish-brown to light or dark brown.
The speed and result of the colour change depend on the climatic conditions and air quality at the site of use. Sulphurous air accelerates the oxidation process and makes the surface darker. Fast alternation of damp and dry cycles accelerates the process as well.
No patina layer is formed in constantly damp or dry conditions, which is why weatherproof steel should not be used, for example, indoors. The oxidation process takes usually 2–6 years.
