Clean the new pan by washing it with a mild cleaner or hot water and season the pan immediately after cleaning as follows: Heat the pan hot on a gas burner, electric grill or campfire and apply a thin and even layer of Muurikka Silava Frying Fat or oil throughout the pan surface. The fat must not trickle thickly onto the pan bottom, because if it lumps, the fat will burn into an uneven mass. Apply a few layers of fat and wait for the fat to suck up before applications. The fat will darken and dry onto the pan, at least at the centre of the pan. The pan will darken further in use and gain more patina. Watch the video here.
Always clean the pan after use. The best results are achieved by cleaning the pan immediately after use. Pour a drop of water on the pan, bring it to boil and clean the pan with a spatula and paper towel. Wipe the pan dry and grease the frying surface lightly with cooking oil or salt-free Muurikka Silava Frying Fat. Watch a video on cleaning here.
When your Muurikka Pan is dirty or you want to clean the pan between dishes with different tastes, common salt is a good trick. Spread salt generously on the Muurikka Pan and keep a low heat on for a few minutes. The salt will suck up fat, moisture and stains. Once the stains have sucked up, scrape the salt off with a spatula, for example, pour a drop of water on the pan and wipe the pan clean. Last, remember to dry and grease the pan well. This way, your Muurikka Pan will be as good as new again. Watch a video on the salt trick here.
If the pan has been exposed to moisture during storage and is rusty, don’t worry. Scrub the pan with steel wool or grill brush, clean and season it according to the instructions on taking a Muurikka Pan into use. This way, your pan will be good to go again.
Before long-term storage, clean, dry and grease the pan by heating it with Muurikka Silava Frying Fat (heating will remove moisture from the pan and Silava Frying Fat will prevent rust). Store the pan in a dry place.
The material is cold-rolled steel/carbon steel. Because the pan is not rustproof and does not have a non-stick surface treatment, it is important to carefully follow the instructions on taking into use and maintenance. A proper treatment improves the frying properties of the pan and protects it against corrosion.
Remove the temporary rust prevention treatment by boiling some water on the pan and then clean the vessel with water and mild washing-up liquid. Do not leave the pan to dry outdoors; dry it right away so that it will not rust. After that, heat the pan immediately and grease the inside of the pan lightly with oil or lard. Seasoning protects the pan against rust and improves its frying properties. The seasoning must be renewed whenever it is damaged or has been washed off. The brownish-speckled layer of fat formed on the surface protects the vessel from rust and improves its frying properties, and it is normal for the surface of the pan to become speckled after it is taken into use. Watch the video here.
Going forward, you should not use washing-up liquids for cleaning the pan because they remove the fat layer. Wash with hot water or by boiling water in the pan. If food residues are stuck to the pan, you can soak them and/or scrub with steel wool. Store the pan wrapped in paper inside a plastic bag in a dry, sheltered place.
The pan is not spoiled. If the pan has become rusty, scrub and wash the rust off and repeat the seasoning process.
You should place the griddle on top of the drip tray and place the drip tray on the brackets in the smoking oven.
The Electric Smoking Oven is made of stainless steel. The removable inner parts, i.e. chip tray, drip tray and griddles, should be cleaned after each use. You can even wash the parts in a dishwasher. Tip! You can protect the chip and drip drays with aluminium foil, it will make cleaning easier. Especially if you use sugar cubes to add colour to fish, they easily melt onto the chip tray.
We also recommend cleaning the inside of the electric smoking oven if a lot of soot and fat has accumulated on the walls. Remove the electric resistor from the smoking oven (the element is fixed with 1 lock nut), remove the resistor and its support from the smoker, after which you can clean the inside of the smoker with Muurikka Multicleaner.
When using an open fire, indoors or outdoors, practise due diligence at the cooking location, as well as note the fire safety regulations that are in force at the time. The instructions and guidelines set by the fire safety officers are always to be adhered to prior to using the product.
There must be a non-combustible surface such as tile, gravel or sand under the Tundra Grill and extending out for 500 mm around the edges fireplace. If the Tundra Grill is installed on a wooden terrace, for example, a protective metal sheet must be installed under the Tundra Grill. The Tundra Grill protective mat is made of material that will not ignite easily, but not completely non-combustible. The protective mat is primarily intended to protect vicinity of the Tundra Grill from splashes during cooking. Especially when installing on the terrace, special care must be taken to ensure that the burning coal cannot fall under the terrace in between the decking.
The Tundra Grill Notski is designed to match the likeness of a campfire site, which is why we do not recommend installing Notski indoors. When used indoords the Tundra Grill needs a smoke hood and a chimney so that the smoke goes up the chimney and is not left to circulate indoors. Otherwise, any other Tundra Grill model is suitable both outside and inside.
Non-combustible surface such as tile, gravel or sand under the Tundra Grill and extending out for 500 mm around the edges fireplace. In addition, the protective distance to the sides of 1500 mm from the center of the fireplace in all directions.
The best and draft-free way to solve the correct flow of replacement air required by an open fire is to build a tight radially framed floor in the structure, which is left open from under the floorboards. A hole of 25–30 cm is made under the fireplace, from which the air flow rises directly into the grate; this results in a good, steady air flow inwards. When the fire is burned, the flow accelerates and thus a good upward draft is created into the chimney.
Another popular, but not so good way to solve the supply of replacement air is to immerse replacement air pipes in the foundations of the building. The pipes should be about 150 mm in diameter and at least 4 should be installed to point in different compass-points. To achieve good air flow and operability, the position of the pipes should be pointed upwards, as much as possible, towards the fireplace. No proper air flow is achieved using horizontal piping.
Only birch or alder may be burned in the Tundra Grill. Do not burn disposable containers, plastic, cardboard, etc. in the Tundra Grill, which can produce and disperse flammable flakes into the surroundings.

Yes. The replacement base is available for the Tundra Grill models 80, 100 and BBQ.
Depends on what floor material is used in the hut. There must be a non-combustible surface such as tile, gravel or sand on the floor below the Tundra Grill and extending out for 500 mm around the edges fireplace. If the Tundra Grill is installed on a wooden floor, for example, a protective metal sheet must be installed under the Tundra Grill. The Tundra Grill protective mat is made of material that will not ignite easily, but not completely non-combustible. The protective mat is primarily intended to protect vicinity of the Tundra Grill from splashes during cooking.
The Tundra Grill handles the outdoors without a cover just fine, but it requires careful maintenance after each use.
After use, always thoroughly clean the firepit of the Tundra Grill from ashes. Make sure that the charcoal has been extinguished before cleaning and that there is no risk of fire from smoldering or other combustible material. The easiest way to clean is to brush the ash through the hole in the middle of the firepit into the ashpan. Emptying the ashpan is easy, for example, into a metal bucket. Please note that the ashpan may be hot, use a pot holder to lift the ashpan.
It is also a good idea to clean other surfaces of the Tundra Grill, such as the smoke hood, frying hobs and the foot section. A damp cleaning cloth can be used for cleaning. If there is stuck on dirt on the surfaces, a small drop of detergent can be mixed into the cleaning water.
If, despite the maintenance of your Tundra Grill, develops scratches or paint wears off in places, we recommend that you repair the worn paint surface with Tundra Grill Patching paint as soon as possible. First clean the area to be repainted thoroughly of soot and grease, and allow to dry. If the worn area has already rusted, thoroughly clean the rust before painting. Treat the clean and dry area with Thundra Grill Touch-up paint according to the instructions on the packaging.
If your Tundra Grill is not used for a long time, you can lightly coat the fireplace with cooking oil. The oil forms an anti-rust layer on the surface.
We recommend the use of the Tundra Grill Protective hood, especially when it is placed outdoors without any other cover from the elements. The protective hood protects the Tundra Grill from dirt and inclement weather conditions. However, a protective hood is not a substitute for proper maintenance.
